Ms Phiulavanh congratulated Phonesavanh on his achievements and representing Lao writers to win the award. For instance this year, we had to go through about 15 books published in Brunei for the last 3 years. I have tried to send my articles to various competitions on many occasions and I sometimes win.

The types of works that are honored vary, and have included poetry, short stories, novels, plays, folklore and scholarly and religious works. He also thanked Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith and revealed that Laos holding the Asean Chair last year inspired him to write this poem to promote the Asean community as one with its diversity of cultures and traditions.

Some of these books had been nominated in the last couple of years but had not won the nomination. It also alludes to the coming together as part of the Asean Community, which is characterised by its diversity. All in all, it was a memorable experience.

The writers were able to share a little bit about their work, and their thoughts on writing in Southeast Asia today.

Most have heard about the S. He was the only Lao writer to receive the award inwith the judges highly valuing his novel Saynamthilaikap, which describes love and life.

She admired him as an outstanding amatuer writer who worked hard to producing literary work when not busy with his work in the department. I have to admit that the meeting was literally intellectually stimulating when you have a few people who are icons and diehards of the Brunei Malay literary community discussing about books, poets and writers.

Phonesavanh is an active sea write award writer who has published many stories and articles while performing his day job with the Department of Information, Culture and Tourism in Oudomxay province. In that sense we were not looking for a lifetime achievement award but to be nominated one has also to look into the previous achievement of the writer.

Phonesavanh was born on December 25,in Somsanouk village, Pha-oudom district, Bokeo province. He also served on the National Committee of Reading Promotion from A press conference was held in Vientiane on December 19 last year to congratulate Phonesavanh.

S.E.A. Write stands for Southeast Asian Writers Awards, or more popularly known as “The S.E.A. Write Award”, which is designed to honour leading poets and writers in the ASEAN region.

The ten countries which comprise the ASEAN region are Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, The Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
